Eligibility criteria for Latvian citizenship by heritage
In general terms you might be eligible to get Latvian citizenship by descent and keep existing citizenship if:
One of your parents, grandparents or grand- grandparents were Latvian citizens prior to 1940
They withdrew or were exiled from Latvia during 1940-1990 period
Application procedure requires having documents that prove your connection to the family member with Latvian heritage and proof that they withdrew or were exiled. We might be able to find documents in archives proving that your family member lived in Latvia before 1940.
If your ancestors left prior to 1940, you may still be able to qualify for citizenship, but you would likely not qualify to have dual citizenship.
We are ready to guide you through the application process. Feel free to contact us even if you do not have complete documentation, but you might be eligible for the citizenship. In many cases we are able to find missing documents in Latvian archives.
